In August 2017, we entered a tiny raffia shoe workshop in an enchanting Moroccan Souk. It was love at first sight.
Hand woven, luxurious moccasins that are made with plant fibers. the beauty and comfort of the product was enhanced by the opportunity of social involvement project.
From that trip we embarked on the journey that has led us to create Ramati in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.
We love designing products that connects countries and their identities: Brooklyn with its edgy, fast-forward pace, Milan with its aesthetic, style and design and Morocco with its centenarian craft tradition and colors.
It all began in a tiny souk in Morocco. Our adventurous spirit guided us through peppermint teas, dusty, winding desert hills until we found our raffia paradise with the most exquisite artisans.
The Shoes
The shoes are constructed by hand-knotting long leaves of raffia on a wooden foot model. The artisans we work with live in a shantytown in the outskirts of the northern area of Morocco. By collaborating with the artisans we can support the education and the healthy growth of their neighborhoods.

handmade Raffia shoes made in alliance between Italy and Morocco. All the components are eco-friendly and natural. The shoe is characterized by extreme lightness, breathability and comfort. By using leather alternatives and vegetable-based dyes we have obtained an 100% cruelty-free product that adheres to the ETI (Ethical Trading Initiative) Base Code of Conduct.

We believe in the importance of making a positive impact on the people, the environment and the communities across our supply chain. This is made possible through valued partnerships with family owned factories and artisan collectives that share our commitment to cherishing craft, ensuring fair compensation and protecting workers’ health and safety. The ability to work from home or small workshops means artisans have more flexible schedules to support their families.

Reducing Waste
Do to the nature of the work, we create our collections in small batches, creating only what is needed. This practice reduces waste and ensures our pieces are made thoughtfully, with appropriate time and care, respecting the process of our artisans.
We use environmentally friendly cotton mesh bags for our shoes and recycle and reuse materials whenever possible.

We achieved a complete control in our production chain to ensure a strong ethic with our artisans, all the materials involved and the way that they are supplied.
